Coucou les French learners,
A common misconception about learning languages is that you need to have a fantastic memory to be successful.
I’ve often heard people say that my ability to speak several languages (English, Spanish, and a bit of Portuguese) comes from having a great memory. While I appreciate the compliment, the truth is that anyone can acquire a language, and you don’t need a “good memory” to do it.
In reality, everyone’s brain is equipped with the same capacity for memory. Our brains are designed to retain information, and language acquisition is a natural process that can happen for anyone, regardless of their memory abilities.
The key lies in how we approach a new language.
It lies in ACQUIRING, not learning!
This week, Nadya shared on Trustpilot:
Alice told me that I don’t need to study French, but rather acquire it
I never thought that studying French could be such a fun and joyful experience. With Alice, I learned that I don’t need to “study” the language in the traditional sense, but rather “acquire” it by immersing myself in the comprehensible stories she provides. The friendly atmosphere that the characters of the stories create makes me feel relaxed and at ease with the language.
What was new to me was that Alice encourages interaction with the stories—to draw, take notes, answer questions that help you understand the content better, and even create your own stories, which stimulates your imagination.
Spaced repetition with no effort
Spaced repetition is a proven technique which involves reviewing information at increasing intervals to help transfer it from short-term to long-term memory.
For example, after learning new vocabulary, you revisit it after one day, then a few days later, and continue to space out your reviews over weeks.
Our program incorporates spaced repetition in all our stories, allowing vocabulary to repeat in context. You encounter words and phrases multiple times, making it easier to remember them over time, without the need to learn them by heart!

Consider the fable of the fox and the billy goat. In this story, you will encounter vocabulary that repeats itself, such as “soif” (thirst), “je veux boire de l’eau” (I want to drink water), “désaltéré” (quenched)…
By repeatedly seeing and using these phrases in context, you will naturally absorb their meanings and usages.
After reading and understanding this story, try to answer the comprehension questions in complete sentences. You can check the answers at the end.

To retain new words and phrases with no effort, create mental images or diagrams to represent the information. Associate words or phrases with vivid pictures to enhance recall.
By creating mental images, drawings or diagrams, you better grasp and remember the new language.
