Coucou les French learners,
Here we are after a much needed summer break! Here are a few pictures about our family time on the beach and in Spain (Galicia & Navarra).
If you live in the northern hemisphere, I hope you had a great summer too and if you live the southern hemisphere, I hope you are having a cosy winter!
Now back to French and back to YOU!
Recently, I have been asked a good question by Antony, a Dear Member:
I like watching and listening to the stories and think that they are a great way to learn French. I am learning many words and phrases but how do I know if my pronunciation is correct? For example, on a recent stay in Toulouse it became clear that my pronunciation was incorrect for certain words. My words sounded fine to me! Without having to pay for a private tutor is there a way of easily checking that what I am saying is correct, please?
And here is my answer:
The more you listen to French, the more you will get used to the French sounds. Your brain will start to assimilate to the new sounds and little by little, you will start to speak French in a clear manner. I don’t know of an easy way of checking your pronunciation but what you can do is shadowing. You listen to the audio and you repeat at the same time as the narrator. Shadowing helps to speak clearly. For more details about the shadowing technique, I wrote a newsletter last year about it.

Thank you so much for this wonderful class. I really enjoyed your class. This class really helped me feel more confident about expressing myself in French.
Build a strong foundation and acquire the most frequent French words and structures used in everyday conversations. These super words and expressions will allow you to communicate in the greatest number of contexts. They will also help you understand the general gist of most conversations. They are super useful!
Get a massive dose of rich comprehensible input. Co-create and listen to compelling stories. Engage in conversations about your interests.
There will be framing and scaffolding for everyone to understand the class. The goal is to develop fluency as well as the ability to process the language spontaneously.
All classes are recorded, so you can watch at your leisure if you need to miss a class.
Can’t make it LIVE? You can purchase the recordings and readings only and go through them at your own time.

I enjoy this way of learning French. I had previously had a tutor and have taken French language classes, including a language school in France. This method demonstrates how to actually use the language and multiple ways of saying the same thing. I feel it is much more effective than memorizing vocabulary.

P.S. Got friends, family, colleagues or clients who want to become fluent in French? Share this with them, they’ll thank you for it!
P.P.S Check out our new audio book Rhumus se cache à Paris. It is the sequel of the adventures of Rhumus, a special rat in Paris. Written by Theresa Marrama, this story is perfect for beginners. The vocabulary and structures are simple and comprehensible. There is a lot of repetition to acquire the new language and you will visit some unknown places in Paris!
