Coucou les French learners,
With the arrival of fall, there’s a certain charm in curling up with a good book and letting your imagination take flight. It’s the perfect season to immerse yourselves in reading French.
The Power of Extensive Reading
Reading extensively in French is a cornerstone of effective language acquisition.
Extensive reading means consuming large amounts of text that you find enjoyable and can understand without constant translation.
This approach goes hand in hand with pleasure reading, allowing you to absorb vocabulary, grammar, and cultural nuances naturally & subconsciously, just as you did when you acquired your native language.
Pleasure reading is crucial because it creates a positive association with the language, reducing stress and increasing motivation.
When you read for enjoyment, you’re more likely to continue, leading to consistent exposure to the French language.

Starting Your French Reading Journey
Even if you’re a beginner in French, you can start your reading journey with easy texts and graded readers.
However, finding French books that are both comprehensible and compelling can be challenging.
Recognizing this gap, I decided to write my own book a few years ago.
Many of my French learners, ranging from beginners to upper beginners, ask me for French book recommendations. However, I find that most available readers fall into two problematic categories.
They are either too difficult, with vocabulary and structures not repeated enough throughout the text for effective acquisition. Or they are too simplistic, with stories that are not compelling enough.
You need stories that are both accessible and engaging, with content that resonate with your interests and life experiences.
This realization led me to write “Où est Médor?“, a book specifically designed to meet the needs of upper beginner French learners.
Introducing “Où est Médor ?”
Let me tell you more about the story in the book… One morning, Marie wakes up to find her dog, Médor missing. She embarks on a quest through Montmartre, Paris, to find her beloved pet. Will she succeed?
This comprehensible story, written in the present tense, features my unique YouTube characters, Marie & Médor, as well as exciting twists to keep you engaged.
Rich vocabulary and structures are repeated throughout, providing optimal input to help you acquire French naturally.
This book is ideal for upper beginners. Its simple yet engaging plot, set in the heart of Paris, allows you to acquire the way French sentences are formed while exploring French culture. The repetitive structure aids in reinforcing new vocabulary and grammar patterns without overwhelming you.
