Coucou les French learners,
Today is one of my favorite day! C’est la Chandeleur ! I love this celebration because it is simple and yet, it is a good excuse to savor crêpes with a glass of cider!
À la Chandeleur, Quéré fait des crêpes jusqu’à pas d’heure – Proverbe
Find out about this special feast and also to discover part of the French culture!
In the Advanced Beginner live class, we watched a fun animation about a special competition happening in Brittany. Two old ladies are in the quest for the best ever crêpe. Who will win the competition? Watch here.
In the Intermediate class, we watched un reportage about a family in Brittany celebrating la Chandeleur. Yvette, the grandmother is making crêpes on her billig which is the Briton’s name for a crepe maker.
Soon, the scripts of both the animation and report will be available to read and listen to at your own pace! You can also watch my trip to an excellent crêperie next to Vannes, in Brittany.
Hélène Colinet who explained breathwork in the Instant Thé, created a wonderful resource about the origins and traditions of la Chandeleur.
Finally, I am a big fan of Julie Andrieu and just yesterday, she posted a video about her 10 tips to make the best crepes.
And of course, there are many fun stories to read and listen to when you are a member, such as Une crêpe délicieuse which is Baby story, perfect for beginners because it has a lot repetitions. Les crêpes de Madame Michou is an Adult story, perfect when you have reached an intermediate level.
Faire des crêpes is also an exclusive video with clear instructions to make the most delicious crepes, yourself.
Also, make sure to watch my video on YouTube about how I make un gâteau de crêpes, miam ! This video goes with a slideshow about the origins of the celebration.

Review of the week
Stephanie shared:
I just wanted you to know how much I am enjoying your website, and in particular the Baby Stage, it is perfect for a beginner like me. I read and listened to this particular story about the blue cat earlier in the week. Then I practiced reading the story every chance I got the following day. For words I wasn’t quite sure how to pronounce, I listened again to your video. I practiced all day and then the following night, I made a recording and sent it to my French friend. She was so impressed, she said she could hardly detect my native accent and I made no errors! I was so happy! This is one of the first texts I have been able to read and comprehend in full and it feels so good! And after less than a fortnight of being a member, which is incredible to me!
