I also incorporate this practice into my French classes. At the beginning of each session, I ask participants to repeat positive sentences with me and to themselves like “Je profite de ce moment en français” (I enjoy this moment in French) or “J’ai confiance en moi” (I trust myself).
The Importance of Positive Thoughts
Positive thoughts:

When acquiring a new language like French, maintaining a positive mindset is crucial.
Have You Heard of “La Méthode Coué”?
This method, developed by French psychologist Émile Coué, emphasizes the power of self-suggestion and positive thinking.
Coué initially worked as a pharmacist at the start of the 20th century, where he observed the powerful effect of positive reinforcement on his patients’ recovery.
Coué developed his method after noticing that patients who believed strongly in their treatments often showed better results, regardless of the medication’s actual effectiveness. This insight into the placebo effect inspired him to create a system of self-help that emphasized the power of positive thinking.
The cornerstone of his method was the famous mantra: “Every day, in every way, I’m getting better and better”,
in French: “Tous les jours à tous points de vue je vais de mieux en mieux“.
According to Émile Coué, by repeating this phrase multiple times daily, you could influence you subconscious mind, leading to improvements in both mental and physical well-being.
He emphasized that imagination is more powerful than willpower in effecting change, and that positive autosuggestion could overcome negative thoughts and behaviors.
