Coucou les French learners,
Over the weekend, Angus, one of our dearest member shared:
When I found Alice’s site I subscribed immediately. It is three years later now and not a day goes by when I don’t feel gratitude to Alice. I can say that she effortlessly opened the French Language door to me.
Back when I started I was still hampere I mean, I let the French pattern of language flow into me willingly. “Cake at chocolate”, no problem. “I myself approach from her”, bring it on. Half the battle of learning a foreign language is letting go of your native language.
I never bore of the stories or the lessons, I have listened to them many, many times and every time I listen to them it seems there is always something new that I hear. I just LOVE it.
Are you struggling to transition from translating to understanding French directly?
Here’s a shortcut! #trusttheprocess #enjoytheride
Gist First, Details Later
When you read or listen to a story in French, focus on grasping the main idea rather than translating word-for-word. This helps train your brain to process thoughts directly in French without relying on translation.
Immerse yourself in comprehensible French content such as compelling stories just beyond your grasp or easy-to-read books.
Over time, your comprehension will improve, and you’ll rely less on translation.
When you understand French with ease, you start to think in French naturally and then you speak French freely.
Visual & Physical Reinforcement
Use visual aids such as images, videos, and gestures to help reinforce your understanding of French vocabulary and concepts. Visual cues bypass the need for translation and facilitate direct comprehension.
When you watch my videos, I draw on the board to help you create a mental map of the new French words and structures. I also use facial and hand gestures to help comprehend the story.
This leads to Total Physical Response (TPR). Developed by James Asher, TPR engages both body and mind in language acquisition. Incorporate TPR by acting out French verbs or commands physically as you are acquiring them.
For example, when you hear “marcher” (to walk), take a few steps while saying the action aloud “je marche” (I walk). This kinesthetic approach enhances vocabulary retention and comprehension as well as thinking French naturally whithout the need to translate.
Experience TPR for FREE by walking into the forest with me. Watch the video and do the actions with me.
