Coucou les French learners,
I have just received the most cheerful comment on the Community Chat. Will said:
” Salut Alice, just wanted to says thanks to your wonderful site I am now reading more books in French and feeling comfortable doing so. I still struggle with speaking, however I follow everything that you advise, including doing the actions, and I know it won’t be long before I am also comfortable with that. Many thanks to you, and your team, for the work you put in and for your commitment to teaching. “
That is exactly what we had in mind when we, my dear Man and I, started to make videos and launch the membership!
We want French learners to gain confidence and to become autonomous learners. In other words to bring YOU, the learners to the point where you no longer need us and can continue to improve on your own.
Yes, acquiring a language IS a lonely experience. Watching a video, listening to a podcast, reading a book is lonesome. And it can be hard to acquire a new language alone. But it doesn’t have to be that way all the time!
SHARE your experience, SHARE your journey.
Le club de lecture
On Saturday 13th February
5pm GMT / 6pm CET / 12pm EST / 9am PST
Join us live for one hour to discuss Mystère au Louvre written by Theresa Marrama.
Stéphane is a boy with a dream to one day visit the Louvre museum. Of course, he wants to see all of the famous art, but he has read that there are other things that haunt the museum at night. Through research and asking questions, he gets an idea that is sure to make his first trip to the museum a memorable one. Will Stéphane’s idea pan out in the end, or will it be his worst idea yet?
Let’s talk about the book. Download the questions here.
Get involved
The purpose of the Book Club is to bring the French learners community together.
Let’s learn about and discuss something that matters to YOU.
Let’s read, formulate opinions, and discuss stories together. Often, the thing that prevents learners from reading in French is a misunderstanding of what is available to them. When you discover a book you understand and that excites you, you are more inclined to spend time reading in French!
Increase your vocabulary and comprehension
Let’s delve into a character’s motivations, the relationships between protagonists and antagonists, themes, and more so that YOU deeply understand the story. These discussions are presented in a way that is accessible. They give YOU the space to uncover the story independently and as a community.
These conversations expand your ability to state your ideas in French. YOU get to develop conversation skills.
YOU are encouraged to push yourself and grow as a reader and a learner.
Communicate with real people
YOU now have a space to talk, ask questions, and interact with the other members of the community. The process feels safer and more enjoyable. It fosters your ability to listen and react, and it creates a sense of community around books – and so, so much more!
There are endless benefits of joining the book club. We are so excited to add le club de lecture to our membership. I mean, come on! For just 4.75 Euros per month, you get one hour of a live French class at least once a month!!!
Even better… The sessions are recorded and added to the bank of resources available on the membership. Another video to watch and watch again. Another source of optimal input!
What are you waiting for?! See you on Saturday!

In this series, I go over the six conditions to acquire French (or any other languages) the painless way! In the last video, I explained the fifth condition to acquire French which is to absorb it first, then to learn the rules! Find out how in this video.
