Coucou les French learners,
Laissez les bon temps rouler !
This week we celebrated Mardi Gras with my online French students. In the advanced beginner and the intermediate class we talked about Mardi Gras in New Orleans. We looked at pictures using the See-Think-Wonder technique. It requires us to take notice and observe an image before attempting to interpret it. We try to answer the following questions:
What do I see? Qu’est-ce que je vois ?
What do I think about that? Qu’est-ce que je penses ?
What does it make I wonder? Qu’est-ce que je me demande ?
You can do it too when you look at a picture! It is great way to to gather new information, think about it, and synthesise it before taking it further into new areas to explore. Of course, all in comprehensible French! You can view the images we discussed here.
QUOI DE NEUF ?
Prendre l’habitude
We continue the new series of videos to motivate YOU to acquire French toute l’année, all year long. Each video focuses on one tip or trick to keep acquiring French no matter what!
Our last video helps you to form an habit. James Clear, author of Atomic Habits writes:
When you’re trying to build a new habit, it’s easy to start too big. When you think about the change you want to make, your excitement and motivation can convince you to do too much, too soon.
Everyone’s heard things like: start small, take baby steps. But even when you know you should start small, it’s still easy to start too big.
This is why, if I have to recommend one place to start when building a new habit, I would recommend choosing a habit that is as easy as possible to perform.
In the case of French acquisition, I recommend you to start small by taking 10-15 minutes each day to listen to 1-2 French stories. Listen to the stories with the intent to understand them. Choose a calm moment in your day, sit down, RELAX and ENJOY the stories. Once you form this daily habit, you will understand more and more French SO you will listen to more and more French. It is SIMPLE and IT WORKS!
#trusttheprocess
When do you take time to listen to French stories? Have you managed to make it a daily habit?
